MORE Knobby Creek 2020 Round 3 of the MORE series took place in New Florence, MO this past weekend. Rain earlier in the week set the ground up to be perfect! A lot of work has been done to make this property the ultimate race location, such as, bringing in multiple semi loads of sand!! Saturday in Sportsman Expert, I got a near the end of the pack start and did not gain much. I finished 13th out of 14 and 20th O/A. I felt like I rode pretty reserved on the more technical areas of the trail. But I made up time in the sand and moto tracks. Even passed my dad in a sand corner! He got back around me later on though. Saturday’s trail was stellar! It had the perfect combination of technical, rocks, hill climbs, fast, sand, and moto tracks. Like it was just freakin awesome! Saturday in the Ladies race I had a really freakin fun battle with Sierra Heightower! We came into the first two corners neck in neck but I ended up out front. We pushed the pace the entire time. It has been awhile since I have rode under pressure like that and I felt like I kept making mistakes. On lap 6, I got a little excited behind a lapper and ping-ponged off of a bunch of trees and eventually hit the ground. Sierra went around me and was now in the lead. Boyd was right there, luckily, and yelled some words of encouragement. So, I got my stuff gathered and got back on the bike, fairly quickly. The next lap would be the last of this race. I rode hard but stayed smart. Quarter of a mile from the end, I took a “Todd line” and got the lead back. It was so much fun to have an all-out EPIC battle! I was toast after that. My HR avg was 180 and max at 196! It was intense! I really enjoyed this trail also. It was a little over a mile long and had a little bit of everything! Sunday, I was feeling the soreness from my little mishap in the Ladies race. My hip was swollen and bruised but luckily, I had my new set of Fly Racing Lite Hydrogen gear that is super light weight and did not bother my hip much. From a combination of things, I had a really off day but I ended up finishing 8th out of 12 in A. Sunday’s course included a few more technical hills and some grass track but it was still a pretty awesome trail! Great job to the Bonecutter Off Road Beta and Sherco racer’s! MORE Thayer Extreme 2020 I have been looking forward to the Thayer round for awhile. This place has awesome trail, lots of field sections, and a mellow moto track. Leading up to the race, temperatures were in the mid 90’s. No rain. That combo usually leads to DUST. I spent a lot of time in the heat prior to the race. I really focused on my water intake and key nutrients all week. I truly believe that helped me be a big ball of energy after my Saturday races. Saturday, I raced Sportsman Expert. I chose to kind of not go for the “holeshot”. After the first corner, there was a jump and I did not like it in practice. So, I did not want to be in the mix of 15 other riders. I chose wisely. As I near the jump, I see one guy flipping forward another guy hitting him, another bike down. I am thinking “OH SHI!T!!!” but still no time to process what the heck was happening. I was already on the right but still clipped a wheel and maybe a body. I knew my dad was not in front of me so I turned around and looked. I see him trapped under three bikes. Another guy was also and to me it looked like 4-5 bikes in that mess. I threw my bike on the ground and ran back to make sure my dad was all good. He was. About the time, I got that answer, the MORE crew realized what happened a lot of people started running over to the pile up to get everyone picked up. So, I hopped back on my bike and proceeded to play catch up. I rode really well and felt super comfortable in the flowly trail. Still hesitant with jumps, surprisingly. – I have been practicing some motocross lately. I made a couple passes putting myself in 9th and 14th O/A! I finally felt like I was riding how I should! I was not ready to be done when the checkered flag flew. It’s a good thing, I signed up for the Ladies A afternoon race. In the Ladies A race, I pulled the holeshot out of 8 other women and managed to put 20 seconds on my class by the end of the motocross track. I focused on my form during this race, using my legs and keeping a light grip. I felt so good. By the end of the 35-minute race, I put 4+ minutes on my class. The trail flowed good; my bike handled amazing. The Ladies classes continue to grow and it makes me so happy. Sunday, the trail got a lot drier, lot sketchier, and gnarly. The trail was longer than Saturday and had some super fun field sections. The only bad part was lack of visibility. SO MUCH DUST! I had a bad start and could not see until my last couple of laps. I was uncomfortable trying to “push” to race other guys so I played it safe. I ride with my mouth open and I can’t even begin to explain how much dust I swallowed. I even ran out of water which never happens! Luckily, Leivan and the rest of the MORE crew keeps the best interest of racer’s in mind, making the race 1 hour and 30 minutes. I enjoyed it as much as I could but was happy to see the checkered flag. I finished 11th in A. I am really happy with how I rode on Saturday. I have been taking the time to examine what my weaknesses are on and off the bike and I truly think that is helping me. REMEMBER – You must be able to adapt to the situation. MORE Lead Farm 2020 I finally raced my first harescramble in 10 months. Last weekend round 1 of MORE took place in Versailles, MO. Earlier in the week a tropical rain storm passed through causing flash flooding in the area. I assumed it would be wet but not a complete mudder which was correct. Unlike most Missouri areas, this property does not have many rocks. The trail was soft in places and developed some really cool ruts and some not so cool ruts. This year, I decided to move up to the A class. Some insight of how my mind works and why I feel like moving to an A open class (with men) is a good choice.. I like a good challenge. Without pushing myself, I would remain the same. You can’t stay in your comfort zone and expect change to happen. You can’t opt out of competition; you lose and you win. Both are important to develop your skills. Anyways.. Saturday morning, I raced Sportsman Expert, which is the front row with a combination of Pro and A riders. That was pretty nerve racking. I have not done very many front row starts and of course Andrew Smith lined up right next to me. I knew his four stroke would not start very fast so he would be behind me lol. I got pushed to the outside of the first corner and went into the woods towards the end of the pack. I was with a couple riders for half a lap until I made a mistake. Towards the end of that lap, I went by a fellow rider in my class who was buried peg deep in a mud hole. I started lapping people on my second lap. I did not have many issues getting through them at that points. Towards the end of that lap, I managed to get cross rutted and ended up in a tree stuck, under my bike. I kept kicking at it trying to get free. Luckily, Ed the owner of Romp MX rode up on his XR 650 and freed me. Lap 3 and 4, I started to come up on bottle necks. People sitting in a skinny creek waiting for a free line to pop up. I weaved my way through them. I ended up finishing 10th out of 11. Saturday afternoon, I raced Ladies A on my Beta 125. It is the ultimate fun bike. My kicking leg had a massive cramp when the 15 second board went up but it fired right up when the flag went up and pulled the holeshot. I finished 1st out of 8. There was a total of 14 ladies signed up for that race. My BFF Meg even came out of race “retirement”. I am stoked to see the turnout increase and hope it continues! My arm was a little sore and stiff from Saturday’s races so I figured my two hour afternoon race would be a little rough for me. There were 10 people signed up in the A class. I had a decent start about mid pack and held it for awhile. A couple miles in, I hit a rutted line with large exposed roots and took the bars to my ribs and flipped over my bike. That certainly cost me a lot. I got back up and proceeded. I did not wreck the rest of that lap or the next one. Almost a hour in, I started to lose control of my throttle (from a tired arm) and began to make a ton mistakes. I felt like a complete beginner. It was rough. BUT I finished the race and that is what counts. I ended up 9th out of 10. I have a month before the next MORE and I am more aware of where my physically weaknesses are and plan to change my focus for a while. It was wonderful to see the local race family. I appreciate everyone giving me the encouraging words all weekend! It is an atmosphere I absolutely enjoy. Race season has official began for Bonecutter Off Road Beta and Sherco Racer’s! MORE Peninsula Run 2018 This past weekend round 6 of the MORE series took place on a peninsula at the Lake of the Ozarks. Camp Sabra is located in Rocky Mount, MO… Let’s just say there was some truth to the name of the town. MORE is a two day event and most races I will race three different classes. I remember enjoying this property the year before and was super excited for this race. During my practice lap, I just could not believe how many loose rocks this place had! It was insane. A lot of the trail is on the edge of the giving riders plenty of opportunity to see some up close views or as one rider did last year, plunge into the lake bike and all. Overall, the trail flowed well with a good mix of things but did not have many places that were not brutal. Saturday, I race in the Sportsman Intermediate class. For the first time all year, I had a decent start and was towards the front of the pack.. The first ¼ mile was zig zag trail through the cabin area. Suddenly, there was a sharp right corner behind one of the cabins. It was only wide enough for one bike to fit (single file line), to the left was a concrete retaining wall about 6 feet high and then to the right was the cabin wall. Literally, the entire class (20 riders) were piled up like a herd of cattle trying to get through. I lost 4 or 5 positions right there. At the end of the first lap, I was in 11 and by the end I found some good lines and passed into 9th. Overall, I felt really good on the bike but it sure was hot. Saturday afternoon, I race Ladies A. I was the only lady signed up in that class so I just tried to have fun! Sunday, I race in B on the long course. The trail was the exact same as Saturday’s race just more beat up and loose rock. I had another decent start putting me into 4th. I stayed in that position for the entire first lap and part of the second. I was feeling really good but started to notice I had no traction. I was not for sure what was up until I had a mishap on a hill falling back to 7th. I happened to look at my tire and noticed I had no knobs left! My first thought was, what the he!!, I guess this is my problem. I was not very thrilled about the situation but quitting over a bald tire was not going to be an option. I sucked it up and continued on. I made one pass and another guy quit so I ended up finishing 5th.
